Getting political
With the punk theme, I thought it would be interesting to incorporate some of my own personal political views into my work. It seemed very fitting giving my stance towards the Tory party and the whole aesthetic and message of the punk movement being rebellion. So I chose to place and deface some political members in my badge designs. My first and most important one I feel given current affairs is David cameron. Which adds a sense of relevance to the design package, keeping the idea of punk in the now. I also used images of George Osborne and Thatcher.

My final poster
In order to make the text more visual I added blocked shapes to keep with the ransom note style across the poster, I also used a mixture of the two font types I have used to give an email address.
typographic poster imagery
There was a lot of empty space which felt like it needed filling in my poster, so I decided to find an iconic figure to use on the other side of the poster. I decided to use the cat woman, who was an iconic punk figure in the 70s
I traced an image of her on illustrator and made the edges a lot more rough and reduced the colouring so that I had just a few really bright colours
She fits really well into the poster and fills the space in a very effective way adding more depth of field and depth of colour. She clashes with everything else. I really like this.
I also added text such as the date and place of the exhibition but I will need to reconsider placement and maybe colour of these as they are hard to see agains the background and don't really stand out like important information which they should.

Typographic poster font types
I have chosen typography which is very similar to that which Reid uses in his work because I feel it is very iconic of the punk movement. I have also placed some words on block coloured shapes, reminiscent of ransom notes cut from the paper- this is also a very recognisable as part of the punk visual.
This has been a challenge throughout the whole promotional pack as i had to use a glyph of each individual letter ad trace this in illustrator as these font such as ALDINE BOLD were not freely available. This meant that putting words together has been very time consuming and often it is very difficult to get the letters to be the same size and in alignment with the rest of the word but I discovered that this feature adds to the style of the piece and fits very well with the punk message or rebellion.
Starting my typographic poster
I have taken a lot of inspiration regarding colour from Reid's work so far. I think bright acid wash looking colours are fitting for my theme and stay true to the aesthetic of graphic design of this era.
